Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity
Workshop is a mission-driven organization founded by former federal government leaders, specializing in developing strategies to advance workers' rights and labor policy. The organization excels in policy change and advocacy, leveraging its expertise and network to influence public administration and economic development. However, it faces a significant challenge in addressing the complex issue of wage stagnation and economic mobility for working Americans. Traditional approaches like minimum wage increases are not sufficient, necessitating a broader exploration of policy solutions that can have a sustained impact across industries and geographic regions.

This challenge affects Workshop's ability to fulfill its mission of improving workers' financial security and economic opportunity. Without innovative policy solutions, the organization risks falling short of its goals to address critical economic affordability challenges. The current impact includes limited advocacy effectiveness and a potential decrease in influence over policy changes that could benefit the middle class and working Americans.

The project offers students an opportunity to address this challenge by researching and evaluating a range of policy approaches, including wage-enhancement strategies, labor market interventions, and workforce development initiatives. Students will also assess broader economic trends like technological disruption and labor market shifts, providing a comprehensive analysis that can inform Workshop's future policy development and advocacy efforts.

The project consists of several phases, beginning with an extensive literature review and stakeholder mapping. Students will then analyze existing policy models at federal, state, and local levels, identifying opportunities for meaningful economic impact. The next phase involves proposing innovative policy frameworks and strategies, followed by developing communication plans for diverse stakeholders.

This project is ideal for students as it provides a unique blend of policy research, analysis, and strategic planning. Students will gain valuable skills in consulting, public policy development, stakeholder engagement, and evidence-based advocacy. Exploring real-world challenges like wage stagnation and economic mobility will prepare students for careers in policy analysis, public administration, and economic development. The project aligns with their academic training and offers a relevant and exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on a significant economic issue.
