Project Overview

Project Details
Project Title Financial Software Testing And Quality Assurance
Project Synopsis

What is the challenge or opportunity you are trying to address within your organization?

Rook Accounting has developed accounting software designed to help businesses efficiently manage their financial operations. As with any financial application, the accuracy, reliability, and usability of the platform are critical to ensuring users can confidently manage accounting transactions and produce dependable financial reports.

Before new features and enhancements are released, it is essential to thoroughly test the software under a variety of real-world accounting scenarios. Even minor errors in journal entries, account balances, financial statement generation, or reporting logic can lead to inaccurate financial information, reduced customer confidence, and increased support requirements.

Rook Accounting is seeking students to serve as an independent quality assurance team by performing common accounting tasks within the software, evaluating how the system processes transactions, identifying defects or usability issues, and recommending improvements. Students will apply their accounting knowledge while gaining hands-on experience working with an integrated accounting platform and participating in a real-world software testing process.

This project provides students with the opportunity to bridge accounting principles and technology by helping improve the functionality, reliability, and user experience of a commercial financial software solution.

What are some of the activities or action items you think will need to be taken to achieve your desired results?

  1. Develop an understanding of the Rook Accounting platform, its features, and intended accounting workflows.
  2.  Perform a variety of accounting transactions within the software, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting activities.
  3.  Test general ledger functionality and verify that transactions are accurately recorded and processed.
  4.  Evaluate the accuracy and consistency of generated financial statements and management reports.
  5.  Identify software defects, calculation errors, workflow issues, or user experience challenges.
  6.  Document testing procedures, findings, and recommended corrective actions using professional quality assurance practices.
  7.  Prioritize recommendations based on business impact, user experience, and implementation complexity.
  8.  Present findings and improvement recommendations to the Rook Accounting leadership team.

What would make this project a success for your organization? What measurable results are you looking to accomplish?

Success will be measured by the team's ability to thoroughly evaluate the accounting software and provide actionable recommendations that improve product quality and user confidence.

Successful outcomes include:
  •  Comprehensive testing of key accounting workflows and financial reporting functionality.
  •  Identification of software bugs, calculation errors, and workflow inconsistencies.
  •  Validation of financial statement accuracy and reporting reliability.
  •  Recommendations to improve usability, reporting capabilities, and overall user experience.
  •  Well-documented testing results that support future software development efforts.
  •  Professional presentation of findings and prioritized enhancement recommendations.
