I stumbled upon data visualization and storytelling through an odd collection of jobs and dreams. Coming out of college with Humanities and Film degrees, I wanted to work in collections and archives. I fell in love with the precision of data entry and categorization but got lonely in the back rooms of museums. I then dreamed of managing a house museum and telling stories of all the wonders that come of living daily life. While managing house museums I learned the ins and outs of managing inventory, keeping good data, and building POS systems. Working in such a public facing role taught me my need for less people. I then found the Elks. Through my current role, I have been able to combine my knowledge of visual storytelling and love of data to tell stories about the wonders of everyday numbers.
