Background & Objective

The challenge or opportunity you are trying to address for the organization.

The Charlotte Black-Jewish Alliance (CBJA), hosted by the Stan Greenspon Center for Peace and Social Justice, seeks to unite Black and Jewish communities in Charlotte, NC to fight hate and promote justice. Their work is rooted in shared historical struggles, values of liberation and equity, and a future-forward vision of multiracial democracy. Across the United States—and increasingly around the world—similar coalitions have formed to advance these same ideals. From interfaith advocacy groups to racial justice alliances within synagogues and historically Black churches, there is powerful, grassroots work happening in silos.

Learning Objectives

This is what students will learn as they complete the case.

This case challenges students to investigate how community-based alliances can be connected into a broader movement with shared infrastructure, resources, and strategic direction. It requires combining landscape research, coalition analysis, funding strategy, and platform design to support cross-community collaboration at scale. Students will develop experience in mapping fragmented ecosystems, identifying structural gaps, and translating community-driven values into an actionable growth strategy. The work reflects real-world challenges in social impact strategy, movement infrastructure, and intergroup coalition building.

  •  Analyze the global landscape of Black-Jewish alliances to identify common goals, structural patterns, and unmet needs across the movement
  •  Evaluate how existing alliances design programs, measure impact, and sustain operations through different funding and leadership models
  •  Assess barriers that prevent Black-Jewish coalitions from sharing resources, scaling effective practices, and building collective power
  •  Develop a program and funding taxonomy that clarifies how alliances operate and where strategic support is most needed
  •  Design a centralized platform concept that supports knowledge-sharing, convening, technical assistance, and coordinated advocacy
  •  Evaluate governance and stakeholder engagement models that could align local coalition autonomy with global movement infrastructure
  •  Develop a phased strategic roadmap that positions CBJA as a convener and catalyst for a broader Black-Jewish ecosystem
  •  Synthesize research, strategic analysis, and platform design into a compelling recommendation for building a unified and scalable alliance network
