Background & Objective

The challenge or opportunity you are trying to address for the organization.

The Tribeca Macadamia Nut Project is a family-owned farm producing large quantities of Macadamia Nuts. They have traditionally sold plain, roasted, and chocolate-covered products, mainly across Brazil and Latin America.

Learning Objectives

This is what students will learn as they complete the case.

This case focuses on launching a new consumer product (macadamia nut milk) in a competitive U.S. dairy alternatives market, with an emphasis on end-to-end supply chain design. Students will develop skills in product strategy, sourcing, manufacturing, and distribution while balancing cost, scalability, and sustainability.
  •  Analyze the U.S. plant-based milk market and evaluate competitor products, positioning, flavors, and packaging strategies
  •  Identify target customer segments and develop product-market fit for macadamia nut milk offerings
  •  Design a product portfolio, including flavors, sizes, and pricing aligned with consumer preferences and competitive benchmarks
  •  Evaluate packaging solutions (e.g., Tetra Pak vs. alternative materials) considering cost, shelf life, sustainability, and regulatory requirements
  •  Develop a procurement strategy for macadamia nuts, including sourcing options, cost variability, and supply seasonality
  •  Assess manufacturing location options by analyzing trade-offs across cost, logistics, labor, infrastructure, and proximity to markets
  •  Design an efficient supply chain from raw material sourcing through production to final distribution in the U.S. market
  •  Evaluate distribution channels (retail, e-commerce, brokers) and logistics modes (air, sea, truck) for cost-effectiveness and scalability
  •  Develop strategies to ensure supply chain resilience, including inventory planning, supplier diversification, and risk mitigation
  •  Formulate an integrated go-to-market and operations plan that aligns product strategy with supply chain execution
