Background & Objective

The challenge or opportunity you are trying to address for the organization.

Piko Provisions was founded with one goal: to provide the best organic food for babies in Hawaii and beyond. Piko baby food products have no artificial flavours, preservatives, or additives. We deliver sustainable foods made from all-natural Hawaii-grown ingredients and superfoods. We support local agriculture by sourcing all our ingredients from Hawaii-based farmers and producers to build a more sustainable agricultural industry on our islands.

Learning Objectives

This is what students will learn as they complete the case.

As food systems face increasing pressure from supply chain disruptions, climate change, and shifting consumer preferences, companies must develop resilient, locally grounded product strategies to sustain growth. In this case, students take on the role of product and growth strategists to help Piko Provisions expand its line of organic baby food while reinforcing its commitment to local sourcing and regenerative agriculture. By integrating market research, product innovation, and sustainability considerations, students will identify new product opportunities that support both business growth and food system resiliency.
Students completing this case will be able to:
  • Analyze consumer preferences, purchasing behaviors, and emerging trends in the organic baby food and sustainable food markets.
  • Evaluate the competitive landscape to identify gaps, differentiation opportunities, and unmet needs in the natural baby food category.
  • Assess how local sourcing, regenerative agriculture, and supply chain constraints influence product development decisions and scalability.
  • Identify high-potential product opportunities that align with customer demand, brand positioning, and regional sourcing capabilities.
  • Design new product concepts that integrate nutritional value, sustainability, and cultural relevance to the target market.
  • Develop a product development roadmap that outlines key stages, resource requirements, pricing strategy, and go-to-market approach.
  • Prioritize product opportunities and expansion markets based on feasibility, demand potential, and alignment with long-term growth objectives.
  • Model key performance indicators such as product adoption, revenue potential, and profitability to evaluate the success of new product launches.
  • Synthesize market insights, competitive analysis, and product strategy into a cohesive growth plan that strengthens Piko Provisions’ market position and supports resilient, locally driven food systems.
