Background & Objective

The challenge or opportunity you are trying to address for the organization.

True Religion, a powerhouse denim brand since the early 2000s, has undergone significant restructuring and recently emerged from bankruptcy. As part of its reinvention, the company is working to revitalize both its business and corporate culture. With improved financial performance and the ability to pay bonuses, True Religion has seen positive cultural shifts and is ready to build on this momentum by expanding its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

Learning Objectives

This is what students will learn as they complete the case.

This case focuses on building a DEI strategy that integrates internal culture development with external community engagement in a retail organization. Students will develop skills in stakeholder alignment, program design, and social impact strategy while connecting DEI initiatives to both employee engagement and business performance.
  •  Analyze how DEI strategy can align with organizational culture, brand identity, and business objectives
  •  Evaluate employee engagement drivers and their role in shaping effective DEI initiatives
  •  Develop internal DEI infrastructure such as ERGs, culture committees, and mentorship programs
  •  Design community engagement strategies that create meaningful impact for underserved populations
  •  Identify and assess partnerships with external organizations to support DEI and outreach efforts
  •  Conduct competitive benchmarking to identify best practices and differentiation opportunities in DEI
  •  Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure DEI impact across employee engagement and community outcomes
  •  Translate DEI strategy into actionable initiatives that are scalable, sustainable, and aligned with company goals
