Background & Objective

The challenge or opportunity you are trying to address for the organization.

Our case focuses on developing the African informal economy, addressing harmful traditional practices and violence against women. We also explore the interplay between the Sustainable Development Goals' 2063 agenda and Culture.Individual reactions to gender, ethnicity, race, and other differences are influenced by exposure and cultural background. National origin and other factors also shape group perspectives. These intersections give rise to complex human challenges spanning history, present, and future. Our goal is to research and propose sustainable solutions to these challenges. Harmony across these intersections is both attainable and crucial. Intercultural harmony, alongside gender harmony, is critical to achieving equality and a peaceful society.

Learning Objectives

This is what students will learn as they complete the case.

Addressing gender inequality and harmful practices requires solutions that integrate policy design, community engagement, and culturally informed implementation. In this case, students take on the role of social impact strategists to help operationalize the AVAWA (Anti-Violence Against Women Act) framework within a specific African country. By combining policy adaptation, needs assessment, partnership development, and impact measurement, students will design actionable solutions that promote gender equity, strengthen support systems, and improve outcomes for women in underserved communities.
Students completing this case will be able to:
  • Analyze the legal, cultural, and socio-economic context of a selected African country to identify barriers to gender equality and effective policy implementation.
  • Evaluate gaps in existing laws, enforcement mechanisms, and support systems addressing violence against women and harmful practices.
  • Design a localized adaptation of the AVAWA bill that aligns with national legal frameworks while addressing cultural sensitivities and implementation challenges.
  • Assess the needs of women in the informal economy through structured research methods to identify critical service gaps and priority intervention areas.
  • Develop a network expansion strategy that connects women to essential services by identifying and engaging public, private, and community-based providers.
  • Prioritize strategic partnerships with local organizations, NGOs, and stakeholders to enhance program reach, credibility, and sustainability.
  • Design a user-centered digital or platform-based solution that improves access to resources and support services for women.
  • Model a KPI and evaluation framework that tracks program effectiveness, policy impact, and service delivery outcomes across the AVAWA ecosystem.
  • Synthesize policy design, needs assessment insights, and operational strategies into a cohesive implementation plan that advances gender equity and community well-being.
