Background & Objective

The challenge or opportunity you are trying to address for the organization.

The Science of Sport aims to expand its social impact among youth in underserved communities across the United States. We've reached over 500,000 students, but we believe we can do even more. We want to leverage our success by exploring various service, product, and distribution strategies that align with educational goals and standards. The core challenge is determining the best-fit opportunities for expansion, which encompasses curriculum adaptations, product extensions, distribution methods, resource allocation, capital requirements, hiring needs, and team dynamics.

Learning Objectives

This is what students will learn as they complete the case.

Expanding impact-driven organizations requires balancing mission alignment with scalable growth, financial sustainability, and localized program design. In this case, students act as strategy consultants to help Science of Sport expand its reach into underserved communities through data-informed decisions and tailored program development. By integrating market research, financial analysis, and partnership strategy, students will develop a comprehensive growth plan that increases access to sports science education while maintaining measurable impact.
Students completing this case will be able to:
  • Analyze regional demographics, educational needs, and community dynamics to identify high-impact opportunities for expansion into underserved areas.
  • Evaluate existing programs and offerings to determine how they can be adapted or extended to better align with local educational standards and community needs.
  • Assess the competitive and partnership landscape to identify organizations, schools, and stakeholders that can support or enhance expansion efforts.
  • Design targeted products and program adaptations that address the specific needs, constraints, and cultural contexts of underserved communities.
  • Develop a go-to-market strategy that outlines how to effectively reach schools, educators, and community organizations in new regions.
  • Prioritize target regions, customer segments, and distribution channels based on impact potential, feasibility, and resource constraints.
  • Model the financial implications of expansion, including cost structures, funding requirements, revenue projections, and long-term sustainability.
  • Recommend partnership and stakeholder engagement strategies that strengthen adoption, scalability, and community integration.
  • Synthesize market research, program design, and financial analysis into a cohesive expansion strategy that increases access to sports science education and drives measurable social impact.
